Sable Antelope-still in progress by Sandra Cutrer Fine Artist

I haven't posted since before the holidays, and I am really trying hard to play catch-up. I've been working on four paintings at once, two for my art class, which will start back up soon, and this one along with another animal one (a buffalo) that I working on for pure pleasure. I love the bright colors of this beautiful sable Antelope. The photo was taken at the Baton Rouge,Louisiana Zoo a while back, and I am thrilled to have finally found the time to work on it again. I was actually working on it while in Alabama visiting one of our sons ( he keeps a table and place for me to paint while I am visiting him). I hope your holidays were wonderful. Ours were super busy, traveling in different directions to visit family members that are spread far and wide. Stay tuned for my finished work on this big guy, and some newer works I will ( hopefully) soon be posting.

Blessings for the New Year. I hope yours is filled to the brim with joy and answered prayers!

Blessings,

Sable Antelope- a work in progress by Sandra Cutrer

I have started on another animal portrait. This one is a beautiful Sable Antelope. I am using a photo reference taken at The Houston Zoo, in Houston,Texas.
I am finding out more and more that I (myself) am a "work in progress" as I get older. There is so much to learn, and not enough time to learn it- IF- IF we concentrate on how old we are, or how much time we think we have left to live, or just allow the fact that we have limited time in our day to get everything done we'd like to do. When I think like that, I don't get much done at all because my creativity and abilities instantly become limited and my excitement has become sort of  "gloom and doom"! I am trying to focus on the time that I have, use it wisely, and live with the truth- that I WILL NEVER know everything, experience everything, or master much of anything. But I will work on what I can do, push myself to learn as much as I can to learn many things, pick my "battles" and make the decision that I am BLESSED to be able to do what I can do, and let the rest go. I will be focusing on making myself happy, and anyone that wants to "ride" with me can!

I have read articles online from "professional" bloggers that says we should not share some of our personal thoughts on our art blogs. Well, heck, I like reading a little info about other artist- friends and new contacts. It makes them seem more "real" and adds a little warmth and appreciation for their work, I think.

Blessings,

Two zebras in the works by Sandra Cutrer

I am working on this newest painting using another deep (2.5") wrapped canvas, 24" x 24" square. I really like these deep-sided canvases, top quality "3-D". The size is great, and really gives me plenty of space to create my focal point- the eyes! Painting the sides a dark hue gives it plenty of "frame" on the sides without taking away form the beauty of the animals faces. I really enjoy taking photos of animals up close, and especially being able to paint from those photos. I work on cropping them, getting the best composition possible in order to paint something that speaks to, not only me as the artist, but to the viewer. Animals need to be not only painted, photographed, and enjoyed., but cared for, loved, and kept from being endangered! I thought these zebras at the Birmingham,AL zoo were pure beauties! Stay with me to see the fianl painting-soon! If you'd like to purchase this painting, please contact me at sandrasart777@aol.com, or from my web site- sandracutrer.com.

Lying in the Moonlight a lion on black canvas in bright colors

"Lying in the Moonlight", an original oil painting of a majestic lion on black canvas in bright colors. Although I photographed this beautiful beast in the day light, I decided to use my artistic license to make it more about the darkness of night, with his lonely beauty being spotlighted by beautiful moonlight in a sort of hazy atmosphere. I felt his peace, his wonder, and his power while I painted this piece. I hope you can see it, and feel it, too!

Flamboyant a close up of a pink flamingo in oils

Finished! "Flamboyant", a close-up of a very pink flamingo that had its eye on me at The Birmingham,AL Zoo. I really had to work, work, work on this one to get it just right. I wanted to make sure his beauty stood out, and yet he made a statement about his independence and the fearlessness I would quickly be shown if I came just a little too close-that eye meant business! It is a 24" x 24" x 2.5" gallery wrapped canvas. All of the thick sides are painted a dark hue, so there is no need to frame. I love this painting. The colors really pop, and make a wonderful conversation piece for any room. Check out my prices below, and my other works for sell. My web site is ; Sandra Cutrer Fine Art- or sandracutrer.com.
Thank you for reading my blog, and looking at my work. I hope you've enjoyed watching "Flamboyant" evolve!

Working on a very close-up portrait of a flamingo by Sandra Cutrer

I am  painting on another large canvas. This one is 24" x 24" x 2.5" deep. A gallery wrapped 3D smooth canvas, painting it in oils. A month ago I was in Birmingham,AL visiting family, and took another wonderful trip to their awesome zoo. I was blessed to capture several shots of flamingos. This one was close-up, and such fun. Can you tell he had his "eye" on me!

I enjoy the challenge of painting animals. It always makes it easier to have great photos. I take as many as possible, then pick and chose, sometimes mixing several together to get the composition that I am really wanting. I think this one makes a clear statement of how awesome these large birds are! Their coloring never ceases to make me happy.

Do you have some favorite photos that you'd love to have turned into an original oil painting? Please contact me for pricing and any questions you might have.
