"Riding the Rails" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Riding the Rails" is one of my favorite paintings. I painted this for an advid train collector.
I used brushes and palette knives. It is on a 16"x20" stretched linen canvas. Although this one is owned by a private collector, I would be happy to do a comission for you!

Psalm 125:2 As the mountains surround Jerusalem, so the LORD surrounds his people both now and forevermore.

Did you know that as Christians we are supposed to pray for the Jews? The word of God tells us that we will be blessed! With no end in sight to the turmoil in the Middle East, all signs and prophesies seem to point to an escalation in the violence and conflict. Yet no matter where you stand politically or spiritually regarding the current unrest in Israel, as Christians we can unite on one front: prayer. Israel, as a nation and a people, are God's chosen people. In Deuteronomy 32:10 and Zechariah 2:8, the Lord God calls Israel "the apple of his eye." And to Abraham, God said in Genesis 12:2-3, "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you." (NIV) Psalm 122:6 also encourages us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

"Light of Grace" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer $325.00

"Light of Grace" is painted on a 16"x20"x1" wrap around canvas (all sides painted), in oils with added texture. $125.00. FREE shipping inside the USA. Price includes ins. and signature confirmation.

I created "Light of Grace" with a direction of what it might feel like passing from life to death to heaven " in the blink of an eye". She looks as if she may be thinking of looking back, but not quiet. Maybe she is wondering what wonderful things are in store, but still has some vague memory of her very recent life before such sudden changes occurred. Is the light above her the "grace" in my title? Or, is her name Grace? Is this about God's grace to us all? I will allow the viewer to decide that.

For the Lord God is a Sun and Shield; the Lord bestows [present] grace and favor and [future] glory (honor, splendor, and heavenly bliss)! No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84: 11

"Look at Those Weirdo's" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Ever wonder what the animals at the zoo are thinking about when we stare at them, or take photos? This guy was looking at me through some very thick glass (thank God) on my photo shoot at the Birmingham,AL Zoo. I am always trying to add to my future-painting-material files. He looked  to me as if he were thinking, "What the heck is that weird thing?" while I snapped many shots of him and his roommate. Of course I am sure he has seen thousands of humans ( and camers), as we have seen thousands of animals. But is his curiosity just as unfulfilled as ours, continuing to be interested in something different than ourselves? I love photography almost as much as I love painting and sketching. I hope you will look at my other works.

"Ms Bella" or Prima Donna- by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

I am so very sad this morning. My husband is on the way to the vet (I couldn't quit crying to be able go) with Ms. Bella. After coming in the door yesterday, from my very long and tiring 11 day trip, I saw she has lost weight and was suffering with another bad UTI (urinary track infection). We rescued her from "death row" over 3 years ago. She was abused and scared of everything. We had her 2 weeks before she would come out from under the bed for more than a few moments. She has learned to trust us, and loves us as much as we love her; but every time I leave to go back "home" to Louisiana (and now, Alabama) to visit family, she gets a UTI. She suffers so much with it. I have hardly stopped crying, as I know we will have to find her a new home soon. I have to travel, as my granddaughters are in LA, my aging father, and now my younger son has moved off to AL. My husband was here with her, but she still missed her Mama. She has the loudest purr I have ever heard, loves to play with her pink ball-rolling it back and forth, and nearly passes out when you give her ears a good scratch. She loves to hang in my studio with me. She helped my heart to mend after we lost our precious Hopper when he passed from diabetes. My heart is breaking to pieces.

"Paradise Pond" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer $275.00

This oil painting was created on a 16"x20" stretched linen canvas. Price includes ins. and signature confirmation.

I have always thought ducks were so pretty. While growing up, we had our share of animals, including a few ducks. One evening my Dad had gone out to feed and water them.As soon as he turned on the water,he found the hose had been transformed into a sort of drip hose- with hundreds of cuts throughout the length of it. His first thought was that my two sons had practiced throwing their new pocket knives right onto the hose! Right after their spanking, here came the ducks waddling up to the hose, showing my Dad exactly how those holes had been made when they proceeded to bite on that "weird looking device",which they may have mistaken for a snake! But, later we had a sweet little pet duck we promptly named Cuckoo because he walked in circles, so all was forgiven, and we kept our ducks for a long time.

In God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can man do unto me?- Psalm 56:11

Third of my "Washed Ashore" series by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Third of my "Washed Ashore" series, painted on a 12"x12" wrap around canvas (all sides painted), in mixed media . As you can see this one isn't a sea shell, but starfish and sea shells are neighbors! $75.00 for all 3 paintings- NO shipping if mailed in the USA!

Did you realize that water is mentioned 722 times in the scriptures? That is less than God, Jesus, heaven, or even the word love, but many more times than faith, hope, prayer or even worship. The first time water is mentioned in the scripture is found in Genesis 1:2. From the beginning of the Bible to the end water flows through the pages of scripture. It is full of passages that link water to Gods creating, blessing and saving work. This alone shows me the importance of water in our spiritual lives.Water symbolizes Gods Word in many places throughout the Bible. If, as believers, we continue to take the bible and water for granted and contaminate it, waste or spoil it, we will see that we will have difficulties in our physical bodies as well as in our spiritual lives. When a believer in Jesus accepts the bible and water, cherishes, respects and honors them both as the gifts of God that are freely given to us, we will find our reservoirs full. These are just a few of the both literal and figurative uses of water in the scripture. I believe that God has something to say to us.

Isaiah 12:2,3 Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The LORD, the LORD, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation."

Second of "Washed Ashore"series by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

This is my second of a series called "Washed Ashore". Mixed media on an 8"x8" wrapped canvas (all sides painted). Once this was completely dry I painted a different seashell in the middle. I am having a blast painting the water, beach, sand and sea shells, especially after all of the extremely cold weather we've recently experienced. The seashells remind me there will be summers on the beach again soon, since spring time has finally arrived!

First of "Washed Ashore" series by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Seashells remind me of the many times I've gone walking on the beach. From a small child to a middle aged adult, I don't think I will ever tire of hunting for that "perfect" or rare seashell. Our granddaughters enjoy exploring our beach just as much as I do, always returning to Nana and Pop's house with a load of seashells and sand in their buckets. $35.00 plus shipping and insurance.

He is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence him. For he knows we are but dust- Psalm 103:13-14

" Prima Donna" Siamese cat by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Ms Bella is a "Prima Donna" (first lady), the second biggest supporter of my painting efforts (my husband Bob being my #1 fan). She is in my studio nearly every day, although she doesn't always stay, mind you. She has bigger things to do when the smell of turps and oils gets a might too strong, or my “inspirational” music, which can be classical all the way to down-home banjo picking, becomes a wee bit too loud for her sensitive ears (she prefers soft country).

When we are outside, in the patio studio, she seems to become a little light headed from the warm sunshine, (or maybe she is being hypnotized by the birds), but I get more vibes towards her approval on certain subjects that I paint (like painting her majesty). Other times it seems she is just becomes frazzled about my long hours of work without some much needed play time with her, where upon she will roll her favorite pink ball at my feet. And then there are just times when she just all out relaxes about the whole long process of making sure that I get my work done. If only our lives were as simple as an indoor, slightly spoiled, and rather demanding feline. But, I love that girl…

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 (NIV)

"The Orange" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer $150.00

"The Orange" is painted in oils on an 8"x10" artist board. $150.00. Free shipping inside the USA if bought from me directly- contact me at sandrasart777@aol.com or Etsy.com. Price includes packaging, insurance, and signature confirmation.

I love apples, especially sweet ones, like Macintosh,Rome, or Jonathan. I thought it would be fun to line up a few of my Macintosh apples, then on impulse, I grabbed one of my navel oranges. Right off I could tell which would stand-out, as in " take-charge" [of the painting], be the dominate one, and maybe a little showy? And, without a doubt, quiet different from the rest of the "crowd". I have friends who are so much like this orange- always wearing bright colors, or bold patterns, and lots of huge jewelry. I've tried dressing like these friends, but I always go back to what I am more comfortable (and secure) with. We are all unique, and we should be comfortable being who God made us to be. He gives us all the freedom to make choices- good and bad ones. He loves who we are (no,not our sin), and we should never feel the need to act like anyone else.

"Atsila-Fire" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Atsila" means fire in Cherokee. This is an oil painting done in the expressionism style, on an 11"x14" stretched linen canvas, ready to be framed and enjoyed in your favorite room. No shipping charge (the price includes insurance, packaging, and a signature confirmation when purchase is delivered).

Like their distant cousins the Iroquois, the Cherokee Indians had an even division of power between men and women. Cherokee men were in charge of hunting, war, and diplomacy. Cherokee women were in charge of farming, property, and family. Men made political decisions for the tribe, and women made social decisions for the clans. Chiefs were men, and landowners were women. Both genders took part in storytelling, artwork and music, and traditional medicine. Today,Cherokee women can be chiefs also.

But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.  (NASB)

"A Moment in Paris" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer SOLD!

"A Moment in Paris"

Paris was everything you've ever hear about if you haven't yet seen it for yourself. It is truly the country of romance, history, and art. With so much to do and see, plus all of the glorious smells of fresh bread and cafes' on every corner, who wouldn’t be happy in Paris! It was breathtaking each and every morning and (if this is possible), more so every night. Paris is a place that begs you to come back soon when you say your hurried goodbyes. I dream of going back and staying for a month or two. We were treated like family at every place we went. With so much to see; my feet would beg me to stop and rest, but there were only so many hours in our short week to see this magnificent city!

I especially enjoyed one night, as my son and I looked out over our balcony window; the rain was hitting the leaves on the tree that grew against the hotel wall, bringing in such  peaceful sounds and earthy aromas. We were looking out through the rain, watching the colored lights change on the Eiffel Tower, when I happened to look down and catch glimpses of the ladies rushing from their evening shopping. The street lamps threw out their beacons of light, ushering them home to prepare their evening meal.

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. II Peter 1:19

"Sand and Seahorses" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Sand and Sea Horses is painted in oils on an 11"x14" stretched linen canvas, ready to frame and hang in your favorite spot, or a great gift for a friend. $125.00- NO SHIPPING CHARGES if mailed inside the USA!

My husband and I live about 10 minutes from the beach here in southeast Texas. I love to go walking on the sand, especially on our granite-lined Jetty. It's so much fun to see the various fish and seafood caught by the many various races of people who love come to fish here. One of my all time favorite trips to the beach is when the waves are up. I am not happy when hurricanes are coming toward the gulf, as usually we need to evacuate, but we try to make it to the beach before leaving so we can watch all of the surfers hit the big waves. Every once in awhile we can spot someone riding their horse on the beach. I have always thought this was such a romantic thing- riding on the beach with the love of your life. And no, there are no large dunes here, but I loved the ones I've seen on the Florida beaches we've been able to visit.

Unfinished painting of Calla Lilies by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

I started this painting awhile back and I have been allowing the oils to dry while I think about where I want to go with this. I don't normally show anyone my work until I feel it is complete, but I thought I would look at it myself (on my blog) to see if anything "popped" for me. I can see a few quick fixes I will have to make, then I will add some more to the back ground and maybe a bird???
We shall see!

"Linked" Abstract painting by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Linked" is an abstract painting done in acrylics with added texture, on a gallery wrapped 16"x20"x2" stretched linen canvas.$125.00. No shipping charges is shipped within the USA!

I started with a lay-in of realistic earth tones, and then brushed in a few copper hi-lights. My creative juices were flowing toward some type of foaming motion, with circles or “bubbles” flowing upward; some linking together, some shaking lose. It reminds me of family and friends- linking us together in groups. At times we need the strength that "links" we have with others can create, other times we must shoot-for-the-stars on our own. We can test that, and know that if the need arises, we can fall back on the strength we recieve from others who care for us, and of course our loving God.

1 John 1:7 “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

"Honor to the Apache" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

This is a quick sketch of my friend, Raymond. He is a proud Mescalero Apache. And a super sweet guy who loves helping everyone, always volunteering for any good cause, especially Cub and Boy Scouts. I have taken around 50+ photographs of him, and sketched from them several times. I hope to soon paint his portrait in oils.

Jesus said, “Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you” (Matthew 7:1). Many people practice bigotry toward others as a way of feeling superior. Even some of those who call themselves Christians do this. But this is not the way of God. It isn't always easy to be a true Christian. Very few people today would be willing to make the kind of sacrifices that others have made for their faith. But we do not have to hate, commit acts of violence,be cruel with our words or actions. As true Christian's, we don't have to gossip, tell lies, or say anything negative about others. We can and should strive to live our lives as peacefully as possible – as God would want us to do.

Collage "Under the Window" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

I love doing collages. They are so much fun and great Stress relievers! This one is done on a 16"x20" stretched linen canvas with acrylics and paper.

Do you have stress in your life? Give it to God, then get out and do something for someone else! This is a quick way to forget your own troubles for awhile and look at someone else's. Apostle Paul, who endured many horrible things, wrote that his trial was bigger than his ability to endure, but then he offers an explanation. “But this happened that we might not rely on ourselves but on God, who raises the dead.” (2 Corinthians 1:9) He recognized that this overwhelming time of trouble, he couldn’t handle alone, had caused him to focus more on the power of God, and allow God to work His perfect will. Are you being challenged beyond your ability to endure? Don’t believe that you can do it alone! You can’t! Jesus said, “apart from me you can do nothing!” Nothing! Don’t try anything today without relying on the power of God! He knows you are weak, but He is available to help, so talk to Him about everything! When we are at our weakest, He is strong!

"No Other Love" Graphite drawing by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

This is an 11"x14" graphite pencil drawing.
I took a photo awhile back of my great-niece who was sleeping in my niece's (her Aunt's) lap.
Since then, my niece has given birth to her own little girl. Life goes on...

Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.

"Fire on the Mountains" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Fire on the Mountains" is painted on a 16"x20" stretched linen canvas. This was painted from a photo that I took several years ago while up in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee in October, just in time to see all of the magnificent display of fall colors. We had stopped the car to view something else, when I looked over and saw all of the yellows, reds, and the small path, probably made by deer or other wild animals that roam the mountain forest. $95.00 plus shipping cost which includes insurance and delivery confirmation signature.

"Days Gone By" Native Am. Indian by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Days Gone By" Native American Indian oil painting on a 24"x30" stretched linen canvas.

Although this one was accidentally destroyed (long story), I thought I would share with you my lay-in and the 'almost' finished painting. After all of the work, the painting was destroyed.Accidents do happen, and people make mistakes that we must forgive them for. Thank the Lord that he is a forgiving God. I have made so many mistakes in my life, have many regrets, especially the things I have done over the years to hurt others. God loves us and forgives us, and he puts it under the blood of Jesus Chrsit, who knew no sin. When we repent, God forgives. End of story. He doesn't "bring it up" to our face like others may have the urge or tendency to do. The Apostle Paul said,"Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 3:13-14).

"Missed Stream" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Missed Stream" was created in acrylics, on watercolor paper, for a painting challenge that I tackle every once in a while among other artist friends. I made a very thin top-glaze of white to make it a little more "misty" when I had completed the painting, breaking the rules about never glazing with white. Some times it feels good to go against other people's rules- as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. There are very few rules with art, since art is about creating. Creating what? Whatever pleases the artist, which should be the number one "rule" about art of any kind!
Isn't it great that we have a heavenly father who created us all uniquely! We were created to please him.

So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. Genesis 1:27 (NLT)

Native American Indian drawing by Sandra reeves Cutrer

Here is another one of my favorite Indian drawings. When I am having trouble with my paintings, I try to switch over to drawing. It is usually a little less stressful and calms me. Drawing is my first love!

I also go to my computer and google for answers to some of my painting problems I may be experiencing. Today I found a funny story. I have edited it only to shorten it a tiny bit.

Fun with kids

Dear Artist,

Yesterday I went to a local elementary school--grades one to seven.
Before the fun began I set up in the library, and two classes at a time came in to watch me paint and hear what I had to say. The school was in a new suburban neighborhood.  I told the kids that in situations like this I try to visualize nice places I'd been (he brought no reference materials!). I told them I sometimes started with the foreground and worked toward the back. Some kids were raring to ask questions. Sometimes five hands were in the air at the same time. I had to keep my answers terse.

"What is that you are painting?" (A mountain and a lake.) "Are those supposed to be clouds?" (No, it's the snow on the mountains.) "You put in the snow before the mountains?" (Sometimes.) "Why are you using that colour?" (It seems right.) "Do you paint other things besides this one?" (Yes.) "Can you paint people?" (I try.) "Were you always a good drawer?" (Yes, pretty good.) By now I was painting with my other mind. One class left and another arrived.

Students from Grade Six. These kids were primed to ask penetrating questions.

"Have you always done this?" (Yes.) "How long have you been painting?" (All my life.) "How old are you now?" (71.) "Do you think you have more time left?" (Yes.) "Are there some paintings you will never be able to sell?" (Yes.) "Which ones?" (The personal, family ones, and the bad ones.)

Some kids were interested in the concept of failing. "Have you made many bad paintings?" (Yes.) "How many?" (Thousands.) "What do you do with them?" (Most I throw out; some I hope to fix one day.) "Could you give me one of them?" (I'll consider it.) "Why do you bother with the bad ones when you already know how to paint?" (I don't know.) "Is this one of them?" (Could be.)
One class seemed remarkably concerned with economics.

"How much did you get for the first one you sold?" ($15.) "How much do you get for them now?" ($2000 to $50,000.) "What's the most you ever got for one?" ($100,000.) "How much do you make, anyway?" (Quite a bit.) "Are you rich?" (Fairly.) "How many cars do you have?" (17.) "Do you have a Lamborghini?" (No.) At this point a teacher interjected that they should stick to questions about art. And so it went. Eventually the final buzzer sounded. I was exhausted. I went home. I had to have a drink.

Best regards,
Robert

"Calling It a Day" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Calling it a Day" is painted on an 11"x14" canvas board, in oils. $75.00 plus shipping.

While walking on our beach jetty, i was blessed to catch this elderly gentleman on his way home. The jetty, made of concrete and beautiful slabs of granite, is usually full of fishing men and women from day break until late into the night. Many come with their portable A/C's in the summer, and heater's or Coleman stoves in the winter, to catch fish. There are always a host of nationalities represented here, and they all seem to get along great, sharing such a tight space. Many of us could use this example in our daily lives. How often people pull away from those "not like themselves" because of fear, or cultural differences, when we are all people made by one Father.

Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is a child of God. And everyone who loves the Father loves his children, too. We know we love God's children if we love God and obey his commandments.

This was a commissioned painting, done for a birthday gift from a sweet husband whose wife works for the Texas Postal Service. The background is an American flag and a Texas state flag, with the American flag also flying from its flag pole outside the original US Post Office in that area, established back in 1926. Wow, haven't things changed quiet a bit since then!

Thankfully, some things never change... like God...

Hebrews 13:8 -  Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today, yes and forever.

But sometimes change is good... 2 Corinthians 5:17

Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Blessings,

"Wind in My Wings" Angel painting SOLD

Yesterday, I was working on an on going painting that I have put many hours into. I messed up, started most of the whole canvas over, and still wasn't happy with the results. So, I put it to the side (actually I hid it behind some things on top of my china cabinet) until I feel that I can deal with it again. Painting can be a tremendous joy when every thing is going like we artist plan, but it can become such a struggle and even cause heartache and tension when we have worked for many hours on something that just isn't working out. Life can be like that, too. I really don't enjoy stressful situations, turmoil, or anything in my day that gets me off of my "planned" schedule...but guess what? As my husband likes to remind me," That's life!" When things go wrong or the opposite of what I had hoped for, it only reminds me how really small and weak I am.When I am weak,God is strong. So, I stop what I am doing and I go to my Rock-Jesus- for strength and encouragement- whether it's for a painting that I can't seem to conquer, or a family crisis, health problem, or just feeling down about life's pressures.
And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus  Philippians 4:19 (NLT)
