Chief Wannabee #2- completed painting by Sandra R Cutrer

"Chief Wannbee", #2 completed. Going to a private collector.

This cute little wanna-be-chief  is showing his most "fierce" warrior face! Painted in oils on a 6" x 6" x 1.5" wrapped canvas.

This painting really flowed and made me only wish every painting could go so well!
I hope you enjoyed the stages of my painting. Hang around, as I am working on another little boy's portrait, and will be posting the stages soon.

But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.

Creating Chief Wannabee #2 by Sandra R Cutrer

I sold Chief Wannabee #1, so I thought I would paint him again, since he is such a cutie! You can see the photo reference in the first shot, left, below the painting.

Sometimes when I start a painting, I can tell it is going to be "tough"- meaning it is not flowing correctly right at the beginning (or how I'd like it to flow), and then there are times like this when it all starts flowing so smoothly, I am actually wondering who in the world is holding my brush! It was going so well that I did not stop to hunt for my camera to take a shot or two of my beginning sketch. I finally had to stop myself and get that camera, as I had a feeling it was going to be a "Happy Painting!" Oils on a 6" x 6" x 1.5" wrapped canvas.

I allowed it to dry some today (yeah, it was hard not to go in and work on it some more), but I don't want to make mud of my colors. A tweak here and there, and I should be finished tomorrow.
I hope you enjoyed looking as much as I enjoyed painting this little boy.

Jesus said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."Matthew 19:14.

Feed Store Bitties, two baby chicks by Sandra R Cutrer

"Feed Store Bitties", two darling yellow chicks painted in oils on a 6" x 6" x 1.5" stretched canvas, all sides painted a dark hue so no need to frame! Prices are listed on my photo listing.

These little fuzzy babies bring back such awesome memories for me. One of my grandmothers used to live across the street from a small neighborhood feed store. During nearly every visit, my brothers and I would hurry to get there and see the newest baby chicks in their stacked wire cages. I can still smell the feed in that little store, and recall, when our Dad would come over with us, the manager would allow us to hold the babies. They were so tiny and soft, and I wanted to take them all home.

Naja, an original lion portrait in bright oils

Naja, means strong in the African language. I think that is the perfect name for this strong big cat, and the bold colored oils that I used to create him with!

Naja is painted on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. The sides are painted the background color, so he can be left unframed or easily added to your favorite frame.

I love lions and continue to be saddened that there are so few remaining in the wilds of Africa. All of the big cats are slowly being killed off, as well as many other species of wild animals all over the world. I hope to continue painting these beautiful creatures, and visit them in their natural habitat one of these days, soon, before they are all gone!

"Big Red" a Texas Longhorn in oils by Sandra R Cutrer

 update- SOLD!

A few changes made here and there, and "Big Red" is finished! I hope you enjoyed the last post where I showed the steps in creating "Big Red"!

This big guy actually lives down the road from our home, on the way to our local beach. He was timid when I went the first few times to get a few photo shots of him and his family and peers, but on the last trip his curiosity got the best of him and he had to come check me out- or check out my camera anyway. I talked to him in my sweetest Texan-southern-country voice ( the one I use for scared kitties and puppies). He seemed to be at ease until I would take a few steps closer, making him take a few steps back. I forgot the bucket of feed, but I really must try that next time. After all, there is a huge gate and fence between the two of us. We should both be safe! LOL! I am only 5"0" tall, so I don't think he has a thing to worry about.

Please scroll down for more of my work for sell and prices.
Contact me at: sandrasart777@aol.com to purchase or send me information about a commission. I also work out a layaway plan to fit your needs. Don't forget Christmas is right around the corner!

Some new works going on in my studio- unfinished longhorn by Sandra R Cutrer

Here is the lay-in and a few layers of paint added to my newest work, a Texas Longhorn. Working in oils on a stretched canvas.
We have so many Texas longhorns around where we live, but who would have thought they would be so timid! They run when I get out of the car with my camera.
There are so many colors, so many markings, and no two come close to being alike. How can you not respect these beautiful -and huge- animals.

I wouldn't dare climb across a fence or gate, as I am sure they aren't as gentle as they seem. Maybe next time I can grab a bucket of feed and see if I can entice one or two to come a little closer to my camera.

Savanna Overlook, a rhino painting in stages by Sandra R Cutrer

This is a commissioned work, but I thought you would enjoy the process- from a quick sketch to the finished product. Of course there were several more stages with small changes, then a few corrections here and there, but mainly it went very smoothly.
I told my client that I never thought I would "fall in love with rhinos", but I sure did while painting this. There is something about really- I mean really- looking at an animal, or in this case, the adult female and her calf.
My intentions were to paint it with thicker paint strokes, but as I went, I developed a passion to see these guys more realistic, but still maintain a painterly style.
I hope you will enjoy my work. Thank you for reading my blog and especially joining as a follower!
Please scroll down for more of my paintings and drawings. If you would like a commissioned piece, or would like to purchase one of the painting below, please contact me at: sandrasart777@aol.com.

"Southern Gentleman" Rooster in oils by Sandra R Cutrer

"Southern Gentleman" is an original work, painted in many layers of thick buttery oils, on a large 24"x 30" x1.5" stretched canvas. All sides are painted a dark hue, so no need to frame!
So many rich warm colors makes this rooster a winner for any decor. I named him,"Southern Gentleman" because he seems to be taking a gentleman's bow. In so doing, he certainly has to be a southern born and bred rooster...besides being photographed in South Carolina, then painted in Texas by a true Louisiana girl! It was a such fun creating this painting. I had the canvas layered and drying for weeks, waiting for the perfect object that would work well on top of these colors and thick texture. I think it works well, and shows off the beauty of the rooster.

OOPS! You just missed purchasing "Southern Gentleman", as he recently SOLD! But, I would love to paint one similar just for you! Please contact me for more information.

"Cinnamon and Sugar" two giraffes in oils by Sandra R Cutrer

"Cinnamon and Sugar" are two sweet giraffes. As you can tell, Sugar is trying to catch up with his mother. Giraffes are such amazing animals.I admit it, I envy them for their height and grace.
Unfortunately, more than half the giraffe calves in the wild never become adults as they fall prey to predators like large cats. A fun fact about giraffes is they sleep for between 20 minutes to 2 hours a day. Even when they sleep for the longer period, they do so in 20-minute naps!

Painted in oils on an 8" x 16" x 0.50" wrapped canvas. All sides are painted, making it easy to leave  unframed- or frame it in your own favorite frame. All prices are listed on this blog's price listing, or please  visit my website @ sandracutrer.com, or contact me at: sandrasart777@aol.com for any questions concerning this painting, or questions about other pieces of my work. Thanks for looking and reading my blog!
