Prima Donna, or "First Lady"
If you watch a cats and dogs, especially, you can learn a lot about how life should be. They don't worry about living- or dying- just being alive for the moment is all they know. I've had many dogs and cats in my life, and each one had their own special place in my heart and in this world; each being  unique in so many fascinating ways!. Animals are full of love, giving those they love their all.

Whether you are a cat lover, dog lover, or both, animals are God's precious creatures. We should be kind to all, and appreciate each one's gift to mankind.

Prima Donna is painted on a 12" x 12" x 1" gallery wrapped canvas- all sides painted a dark hue, so there is no need to frame.

Nebit, Leopard portrait in oils by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Nebit, a variant of the Egyptian word for leopard. A close-up and personal portrait of one of the most powerful wild cats. Leopards are loners, not belonging to a pride, pack, or family of its own kind.

 His eyes seem to tell a story. I love painting wild life portraits, and showing the details of each one's uniqueness.

Nebit- Leopard UNFINISHED by Sandra Reeves Cutrer



Nebit
  Variant of Egyptian Nebibit, meaning leopard.

Still on my easel and very wet, but a good friend and I are on our way to another animal photo shoot for new reference materials,so I will have to finish him later.

Leopards, graceful and powerful large cats closely related to lions, tigers, and jaguars. They live in sub-Saharan Africa, northeast Africa, Central Asia, India, and China. Many of their populations are endangered, especially outside of Africa. Another species we must protect for future generations!

Finished Wild and Free Tiger painting in oils $325.00-by Sandra Reeves Cutrer,TX

 I finished my Tiger painting several days ago, but I forgot to post it on my blog. I was so busy starting on a new painting. Some days I can't seem to find enough time to paint, take care of all of my responsibilities at home, catch up with family, friends, and have time for hubby. I don't know how I ever made it through some of the things I've been through and held a full time job in the work force several years back. Being an Interpreter for high school deaf students who were brought in from the deaf school system into the public school system, I faced a daily challenge- but rewarding one,too. I miss the students a lot. They always had something new to say to me, asking me questions all of the time, challenging me to think and learn along with them.We never made a penny from any of the art my students and I created in that school classroom back then, but we made art because we could, and because we needed to create. Painted in oils on an Ampersand art board, $325.00.

Wild and Free- unfinished- part 2 by Sandra R Cutrer


For the last few days, I've worked on "Wild and Free", along with a few other paintings. Here in south Texas, we have really enjoyed some really beautiful spring-like January days- the best days to paint in my studio with such great light. I do love watching this big guy come-to-life right in front of me- what fun! While painting him I imagine myself watching this beautiful animal running wild and free. Maybe it's a she, and she has a family back in the jungle, waiting for her to hunt for prey, and get back quickly to feed their hungry bellies. Maybe it's a he, and he is just roaming around, looking for some action!

All of God's creatures are so amazing and interesting to me. I love watching the Nat Geo Wild shows on TV, along with travel channels,too. There is so much to learn. I can hardly stand to become tired at the end of each day, knowing that I have to wind down and get my rest. I'd rather my body be young (again), needing less sleep, so I can pack in a few more hours of learning (and painting) each and every day. I'd love to have the energy I had when I was in my early twenties, but know what I know now in my mid fifties!

     Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life. Proverbs 4:23

Cats can be so funny, so unpredictable, and sometimes moody! But, they can keep you laughing,smiling, and just plain happy to be alive. They seem to take everything with a grain of salt. If you watch a cat closely, you can learn a lot about how life should be. They don't worry about life- or death, they stretch after every nap (great for the muscles), expect their food from their master-on time, know when to back off, pressuring no one. They can take love, but prefer to give it on their own terms. I've had many dogs and cats through-out my life, and much prefer cats. Don't get me wrong, dogs are great in so many ways,but a cat seems to fit my personality like a nice pair of gloves. 12" x 12" x 1" gallery wrapped canvas ( all sides painted a dark hue) $125.00

"Crown of Courage"

What is courage?
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia,the Symbolism for courage is the lion. It is sometimes seen as a depiction of Christ's triumph over sin (see Revelation 5:5). It also is a symbol in some cultures as a savior of the people who live in a community with sin and corruption. There are so many examples of everyday courage in the world we live in. We know that as long as the Lord's holy spirit is on the earth, we will see good things,true courage,Godly pride, and love.It is when God takes his spirit out of here, that we will lack courage- of any kind, no love will exist, and no peace will be found. God wants us each to have the courage it takes to live for HIM, do what is right, and know that we will have our reward one day-soon! Queen of the Beast by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

God decides all things, not us!

According to the news, tomorrow is predicted to be "the end of the world" so says a few pitiful souls who haven't studied their Bible (with lots of prayer and fasting for wisdom). The word of God says that only God (the father of all) knows the time and hour of his coming. Don't fret, and don't believe those who predict it, for they are wrong in doing such a thing. But, instead, worry about whether you are right with God today, for you could die at any time and it will be the "end" for you,at least on this earth. You will face the only judge when HE decides, not men.
A few weeks ago, I thought Ms Bella, our sweet kitty, was too sick to live. I prayed and cried, but had little faith after watching her suffer for weeks. God doesn't always heal, as I know this first hand from losing a child to cancer (who, in my opinion, was way too young to die), so my faith was very shallow. I got my husband to take her to the vet, with the intent of having her put-down. Well, as you can see in the photo, it wasn't her time to "go", no matter what I thought, no matter how little faith I had. God made a way where I saw no way. It was such a simple thing for Him, but so hard for me. After all, I had to let go of fear and trust her maker. She is now healthier than she was before she got so sick. God knew exactly what she needed, but especially HE knew what I needed even more!

But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.Hebrews 11:6

"Ms Bella" or Prima Donna- by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

I am so very sad this morning. My husband is on the way to the vet (I couldn't quit crying to be able go) with Ms. Bella. After coming in the door yesterday, from my very long and tiring 11 day trip, I saw she has lost weight and was suffering with another bad UTI (urinary track infection). We rescued her from "death row" over 3 years ago. She was abused and scared of everything. We had her 2 weeks before she would come out from under the bed for more than a few moments. She has learned to trust us, and loves us as much as we love her; but every time I leave to go back "home" to Louisiana (and now, Alabama) to visit family, she gets a UTI. She suffers so much with it. I have hardly stopped crying, as I know we will have to find her a new home soon. I have to travel, as my granddaughters are in LA, my aging father, and now my younger son has moved off to AL. My husband was here with her, but she still missed her Mama. She has the loudest purr I have ever heard, loves to play with her pink ball-rolling it back and forth, and nearly passes out when you give her ears a good scratch. She loves to hang in my studio with me. She helped my heart to mend after we lost our precious Hopper when he passed from diabetes. My heart is breaking to pieces.

" Prima Donna" Siamese cat by Sandra Reeves Cutrer


Ms Bella is a "Prima Donna" (first lady), the second biggest supporter of my painting efforts (my husband Bob being my #1 fan). She is in my studio nearly every day, although she doesn't always stay, mind you. She has bigger things to do when the smell of turps and oils gets a might too strong, or my “inspirational” music, which can be classical all the way to down-home banjo picking, becomes a wee bit too loud for her sensitive ears (she prefers soft country).

When we are outside, in the patio studio, she seems to become a little light headed from the warm sunshine, (or maybe she is being hypnotized by the birds), but I get more vibes towards her approval on certain subjects that I paint (like painting her majesty). Other times it seems she is just becomes frazzled about my long hours of work without some much needed play time with her,where upon she will roll her favorite pink ball at my feet.And then there are just times when she just all out relaxes about the whole long process of making sure that I get my work done. If only our lives were as simple as an indoor, slightly spoiled, and rather demanding feline. But, I love that girl…

"King and Colors" in oil pastels by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"King and Colors" is painted on a 14"x 16" pastel board with oil pastels. One of  few works that I've done in this medium. I really loved working with the oil pastels and hope soon to add few more pieces. He was such fun!

"Life is Tough Sometimes"
