New Stuff in the making by Sandra R Cutrer

Yes, I am working. I just have a lot of extra pots in the fire lately.
I decided to get back into my drawing, so I have been busy setting up a small "studio" area in my computer/office room-separate from my painting studio. I can't look at my drawing without wanting to work on it, nor can I look at my painting without wanting to work on it. This meant I had no choice but to separate the two! I love drawing. I love painting. But, as I wrote, lots of stuff going on  all the time. I am not a fast painter anyway, so when "life" gets in the way, life must be tended to before my love of art. I plan to take more photos- as neither work is finished. It helps me to post in stages, and I hope my viewers enjoy it,too!

For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me in earnest, you will find me when you seek me. Jeremiah 29:11-13

"No Other Love" a drawing by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"No Other Love". This is an original 11"x14" graphite pencil drawing.
I took a photo while the child slept peacefully in her wonderful gift of innocence. How precious children are. How fast they grow-up,, and if we allow ourselves to become too hurried for them to get out of their all too quick state of baby and childhood, think of how much beauty we will really miss.Take the time today, if you are blessed enough to have a small child in your life, and enjoy their innocent explorations of this world, while they are still young and amazed at what we adults sometimes take for granted.

Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.

Pride & Sorrow drawing by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Pride and Sorrow

We could have learned so much from the Native American Indians of yesteryear. So much pride in family, concern for the land they roamed or settled on, what love they showed for things made with their hands, their belief in God (although maybe different than American denominational beliefs), their concern was for their people, their heritage, the land that God had loaned to them, the animals God had given them for food. They never wasted a thing, always being thankful in the smallest of blessings! Their sorrow came form seeing the white man destroy all of this; taking and not giving back. Many died form broken hearts. When we choose to close our heart off to others, we have snuffed out the blessings God wants to give us. We have taped down the "gift" box, buried it, never to see what was inside. Open our eyes,oh Lord, so that we may see... all men are made in the image of God...

Romans 1:19-20 - since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Native American Indian Drawing by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Drawing is such fun.One of our beautiful granddaughters is here with her Pop and Nana for a good 2 weeks or so. We are having a blast, shopping until we drop, sleeping late, riding bikes, and looking forward to going on a trip to the mountains . I have promised to take some time this week to help her improve her drawing. She will be learning to shade, value lessons, composition, and how not to hold a pencil tightly, making hard lines where none should be. I am hoping she will be a great artist, along with her dream of being a veterinarian.

Have a blessed summer, and keep God first in all that you do. That is the recipe for true joy and success.

"Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our LORD. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength." As the people celebrated God and shared with those in need the joy of the Lord came upon them.Nehemiah 8:10 NKJV

"No Other Love" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

This drawing, "No Other Love" reflects the love that a mother haves for her child. I don't think there is any other love comparable to that of a mother and her child.

This is an 11"x14" drawing of my niece and great niece done in graphite/pencils. I have always enjoyed drawing, especially people. Prints of original drawing are available at : Sandra-Cutrer.artistwebsites.com
I always treasured time spent watching my babies sleep.Such sweetness and innocence. Love your babies while they are there with you, spend quality time with them, because you will blink and they will be gone all too soon. How fast they grow up and have lives and babies of their own.

Blessings to you and yours,

"Honor to the Apache" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

This is a quick sketch of my friend, Raymond. He is a proud Mescalero Apache. And a super sweet guy who loves helping everyone, always volunteering for any good cause, especially Cub and Boy Scouts. I have taken around 50+ photographs of him, and sketched from them several times. I hope to soon paint his portrait in oils.

Jesus said, “Do not judge others, so that God will not judge you” (Matthew 7:1). Many people practice bigotry toward others as a way of feeling superior. Even some of those who call themselves Christians do this. But this is not the way of God. It isn't always easy to be a true Christian. Very few people today would be willing to make the kind of sacrifices that others have made for their faith. But we do not have to hate, commit acts of violence,be cruel with our words or actions. As true Christian's, we don't have to gossip, tell lies, or say anything negative about others. We can and should strive to live our lives as peacefully as possible – as God would want us to do.

Blessings,
Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"No Other Love" Graphite drawing by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

This is an 11"x14" graphite pencil drawing.
I took a photo awhile back of my great-niece who was sleeping in my niece's (her Aunt's) lap.
Since then, my niece has given birth to her own little girl. Life goes on...

Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.

Native American Indian drawing by Sandra reeves Cutrer

Here is another one of my favorite Indian drawings. When I am having trouble with my paintings, I try to switch over to drawing. It is usually a little less stressful and calms me. Drawing is my first love!

I also go to my computer and google for answers to some of my painting problems I may be experiencing. Today I found a funny story. I have edited it only to shorten it a tiny bit.

Fun with kids

Dear Artist,

Yesterday I went to a local elementary school--grades one to seven.
Before the fun began I set up in the library, and two classes at a time came in to watch me paint and hear what I had to say. The school was in a new suburban neighborhood.  I told the kids that in situations like this I try to visualize nice places I'd been (he brought no reference materials!). I told them I sometimes started with the foreground and worked toward the back. Some kids were raring to ask questions. Sometimes five hands were in the air at the same time. I had to keep my answers terse.

"What is that you are painting?" (A mountain and a lake.) "Are those supposed to be clouds?" (No, it's the snow on the mountains.) "You put in the snow before the mountains?" (Sometimes.) "Why are you using that colour?" (It seems right.) "Do you paint other things besides this one?" (Yes.) "Can you paint people?" (I try.) "Were you always a good drawer?" (Yes, pretty good.) By now I was painting with my other mind. One class left and another arrived.

Students from Grade Six. These kids were primed to ask penetrating questions.

"Have you always done this?" (Yes.) "How long have you been painting?" (All my life.) "How old are you now?" (71.) "Do you think you have more time left?" (Yes.) "Are there some paintings you will never be able to sell?" (Yes.) "Which ones?" (The personal, family ones, and the bad ones.)

Some kids were interested in the concept of failing. "Have you made many bad paintings?" (Yes.) "How many?" (Thousands.) "What do you do with them?" (Most I throw out; some I hope to fix one day.) "Could you give me one of them?" (I'll consider it.) "Why do you bother with the bad ones when you already know how to paint?" (I don't know.) "Is this one of them?" (Could be.)
One class seemed remarkably concerned with economics.

"How much did you get for the first one you sold?" ($15.) "How much do you get for them now?" ($2000 to $50,000.) "What's the most you ever got for one?" ($100,000.) "How much do you make, anyway?" (Quite a bit.) "Are you rich?" (Fairly.) "How many cars do you have?" (17.) "Do you have a Lamborghini?" (No.) At this point a teacher interjected that they should stick to questions about art. And so it went. Eventually the final buzzer sounded. I was exhausted. I went home. I had to have a drink.

Best regards,
Robert

"Memories of Long Ago" Native American Indian

Native American Prayer

Oh Great Spirit, whose voice I hear in the winds, and whose breath gives life to all the world - hear me. I come before you, one of your children. I am small and weak. I need your strength and wisdom. Let me walk in beauty and make my eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make my hands respect the things you have made, my ears sharp to hear your voice. Make me wise, so that I may know the things you have taught my people, the lesson you have hidden in every leaf and rock. I seek strength not to be superior to my brothers, but to be able to fight my greatest enemy, *MYSELF*. Make me ever ready to come to you, with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades as a fading sunset, my spirit may come you without shame.
