"Southern Gentleman" Rooster in oils by Sandra R Cutrer

"Southern Gentleman" is an original work, painted in many layers of thick buttery oils, on a large 24"x 30" x1.5" stretched canvas. All sides are painted a dark hue, so no need to frame!

So many rich warm colors makes this rooster a winner for any decor. I named him,"Southern Gentleman" because he seems to be taking a gentleman's bow. In so doing, he certainly has to be a southern born and bred rooster...besides being photographed in South Carolina, then painted in Texas by a true Louisiana girl! It was a such fun creating this painting. I had the canvas layered and drying for weeks, waiting for the perfect object that would work well on top of these colors and thick texture. I think it works well, and shows off the beauty of the rooster.

"Afternoon Delight" a duck painting by Sandra R Cutrer

"Afternoon Delight" is a small (6" x 6") oil painting on a gallery wrapped canvas, all sides painted a dark hue.
This painting was done from one of my many photos, taken at the Houston Zoo. Getting in close, I went for a shot that, once painted, would still convey the beauty of the duck's soft feathers, and its beautiful dark eye peeking out at me. I am sure it wasn't thrilled that I disturbed its delightful afternoon nap!

"Wings of Freedom" by S.R. Cutrer

My suitcases are unpacked- again. Three weeks ago we flew back from a family vacation in Washington, D.C. Yesterday we returned from a quick, but fun trip to west TX. It was my birthday, and my husband knows I love to travel. Yes, it takes me out of my beloved studio, and yes, I do get off of my healthy-eating plan a lot, but there is nothing like throwing a few things into my luggage and heading for parts previously un-investigated (by me and my hubby). What beautiful parts of the country we saw! So many hills and valleys, such green grass, beautiful farms and ranches. We enjoyed talking with people, and visiting a super nice antique car dealership, among the many things we packed into our getaway.

I am posting my original painting of our wonderful bald eagle,along with the American and Texas flags because I want to make sure that everyone knows I am proud to be an American! Yes, and a  proud Texan! We do have our many "flaws" in this country (and it seems the gap is widening from the freedoms I grew up knowing) but we are still a great nation- under GOD. Let's keep it that way.

I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, unto the republic for which it stands, one nation, under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

 My husband and I were so blessed to be vacationing (again) at the magnificent home of the late George and Edith Vanderbilt, Biltmore Estate of Asheville, North Carolina. What an awesome home,observatory, gardens,winery,restaurants,hotel on the property, and now a small farming area has been added for kids of all ages to enjoy.Everyone is allowed to pet some of the fun animals, but the roosters and hens were more concerned about fresh bugs instead of  being chased by children! I don't think this rooster would have allowed anyone to touch him, as he fussed at this brave hen every time she came too close to his "zone". No need to worry, she was pretty aggressive herself, and got in a few good morsels here and there!

"Strutting My Stuff," Rooster painting by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Strutting My Stuff" is an original oil painting on a 12"x 12" x 1" gallery wrapped canvas. All sides are painted in a dark hue, so he can be left unframed if desired.

I love painting roosters, and have many roosters and hens in my personal collection. Not only are roosters beautiful, but they are such fun to watch! Yes, they can be a pain in the tail-feathers when they do their loud wake up call, they are bossy, rather sure-of-themselves, and cocky (pardon the pun), but they have a way about them that says,"Lay off my back and don't get in my way", causing one due respect. I mean, they aren't big animals, but you would think they are if one takes off chasing at your heels with that sharp beak!

All of God's creatures are a gift, each species unique, and beautiful in its own way. Each serves His purpose.

Three's a Crowd! Artist Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Oh La-La... there is no gift better than spending some relaxing time with your better half... and there is no room for any company....
I tell my husband all of the time that life seems to be backward. Not that we didn't find some time together, but when we were younger, had kids all in our (very small) house, it seemed we had to get in the car and drive off to some out-of-the-way place just to have that "extra" time alone as a couple . Well, the kids are grown, we moved over 400 miles aways from most everyone in the family ( no unexpected drop-ins over here), and have a bigger house. But, there seems to not be much Oh La-La time- between all of his long hours at work, my work (art and taking care of everything at home that he doesn't have time for- like grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, paying bills, yard work,phone calls,banking,running errands... you know), and just being worn-out by the time showers have been taken, and we flop down for some "Me time". So looking forward to my husband's retirement ... I don't know about the Oh La-La time, but I sure am hoping for more time to paint, while he takes care of some the above mentioned chores...LOL! 24" x 36" canvas, ready to frame.

"Strutting My Stuff" ah, yeah, I am seeing plenty of that lately...just watch a little television. The presidential political debates, critical advertisements, and long speeches that have been going on for the last few months. Everyone wants to be the head rooster. All of them seem to have a fine (and loud) Cockle-Doodle-Do, ready to hop up on the old fence post and wake everyone up, get back down, and do it all over again in a few more hours. I try to listen, as I know this election is so important for our country, but is anyone listening to us? Slim Pickins,rooster,chicken, original art, oil painting

"Slim Pickins" is a colorful, and very bossy rooster. He is painted in oils on a stretched canvas measuring 12"x 24".This guy was fussing at the hens who would dare to come near him, seemingly hoping that he might share whatever it was that he was pecking at. He put up a huge fuss as several tried their luck, making me think just maybe there really wasn't that much there, or either he was just being his bossy old self! OOPS- this piece is sold! "Wings of Freedom" flag painting in oils

"Wings of Freedom" was painted with appreciation for all of our American service men and women- from Texas or not. I saw a movie the other night called,” The Lost Valentine" with Betty White (who is nearly 90) made by the Hallmark company. What an awesome movie geared toward our service people- past and present, remembering the widows and other family members who lost their loved ones because of their ultimate sacrifice. It is about love for country, and the great bond that holds like super glue between comrades. I cried so hard I could hardly breathe. My dad is so proud of the years that he served in the Navy. As he ages, he talks about it more often. In this movie they have a moment or two that shows a few WWII vets. You could see the love and honor, the complete respect in their eyes for the body of their fallen comrade, although he had been missing in action for 66 long years.

May God bless and watch over all of those who are serving this great country today, yesterday, and tomorrow. May he keep angels watching over each one, and their families who sacrifice along with them. In Jesus' name, Amen.
