Naja, means strong in the African language. I think that is the perfect name for this strong big cat, and the bold colored oils that I used to create him with!
Naja is painted on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. The sides are painted the background color, so he can be left unframed or easily added to your favorite frame.
I love lions and continue to be saddened that there are so few remaining in the wilds of Africa. All of the big cats are slowly being killed off, as well as many other species of wild animals all over the world. I hope to continue painting these beautiful creatures, and visit them in their natural habitat one of these days, soon, before they are all gone!
"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory
and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours."
1 Chronicles 29:11

"Cinnamon and Sugar" two giraffes in oils by Sandra R Cutrer
"Cinnamon and Sugar" are two sweet giraffes. As you can tell, Sugar is trying to catch up with his mother. Giraffes are such amazing animals.I admit it, I envy them for their height and grace.
Unfortunately, more than half the giraffe calves in the wild never become adults as they fall prey to predators like large cats. A fun fact about giraffes is they sleep for between 20 minutes to 2 hours a day. Even when they sleep for the longer period, they do so in 20-minute naps!
Painted in oils on an 8" x 16" x 0.50" wrapped canvas. All sides are painted, making it easy to leave unframed- or frame it in your own favorite frame. All prices are listed on this blog's price listing, or please visit my website @ sandracutrer.com, or contact me at: sandrasart777@aol.com for any questions concerning this painting, or questions about other pieces of my work. Methai and Baylor, elephants in oils by Sandra R Cutrer
According to the Houston Zoo Elephant web site, "Asian elephants are the second largest land mammal in the world and one of the most intelligent animals on earth. Unfortunately, it is also one of the world’s most endangered species." This is so sad. I am thankful that there are devoted people, agencies, and zoos ( among other places) that are concerned and taking great steps to insure our future generations enjoy these magnificent Asian elephants!
Colossians 1:16-17 - For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (NIV)

"When the Trumpets Sound" three young elephants in oils
"When the Trumpets Sound" is an original oil painting of three young elephants showing off their trumpeting after coming in from a long day of play, and practicing the lessons their mother's taught them about being elephants! I love elephants, finding them amazing animals, super smart, and very loving- if not provoked. They are fun to photograph and paint, and even greater fun to watch.

Tatanka, a Bison Portrait in oils by Sandra R Cutrer
Tatanka, means Bison in the Native American Indian language.
This big guy seems to be standing his ground, maybe chasing away rival males from his harem. My husband, younger son, and I traveled to the Midwestern states a few years back. A bison similar to this one decided to run a little on the main road- in the state park traffic. Thankfully, everyone knew to stop driving until he made up his mind where he wanted to go!
Tatanka is painted on an 8" x 8" x 0.50" stretched canvas, with all sides painted in a dark hue- making it easy to hang him unframed, or placed in your favorite frame.Prices are listed on my photo listing- on this blog or please visit my website @ sandracutrer.com for more information.

Nebit, a Leopard Portrait in oils by Sandra R Cutrer

Nebit, a variant of the Egyptian word for leopard. A close-up and personal portrait of one of the most powerful wild cats. Leopards are loners, not belonging to a pride, pack, or family of its own kind. I think it is amazing that these cats can carry their prey- three times heavier than themselves- up a tree so others, like lions and hyenas don't steal it from them!
I love painting wild life portraits, and showing the details of each one's uniqueness. I hope you'll enjoy the extra photos- showing how I did my layers of oil paint to create Nebit!
Painted on a professional artist board, 9" x 12", ready for framing. So much detail, so realistic, this painting would look great in any room! For pricing, please scroll my blog's main page photos.

"Racer" a Zebra Portrait in oils by Sandra R Cutrer
I finished my zebra painting today, and I am very pleased. Photos were taken back in May at the zoo in Baton Rouge,LA. My nephew just contacted me, letting me know that one of the zebras had her colt this week! I'd like to think this was the zebra that gave birth (or the father)! A great excuse for me to take a trip back to Baton Rouge, to visit family, and see the newest zebra!
Thank you for reading my blog, and looking at my work.

Zebra lay-in oils on canvas by Sandra R Cutrer
Here is a peek at my new Zebra painting. Just the lay-in started. I hope to work on it some more today. Painting it in oils on a 6" x 6" x 1.5" wrapped canvas- all sides will be painted a dark hue, no need to frame.
Zebras seem to be very curious. When I visited the Baton Rouge,LA zoo, these guys were tops for coming closer to check out my camera!
A fun fact about Zebras is, they can run up to 40 miles per hour and baby zebras can run an hour after they are born!

"Afternoon Delight" a duck painting by Sandra R Cutrer
"Afternoon Delight" is a small (6" x 6") oil painting on a gallery wrapped canvas, all sides painted a dark hue.
This painting was done from one of my many photos, taken at the Houston Zoo. Getting in close, I went for a shot that, once painted, would still convey the beauty of the duck's soft feathers, and its beautiful dark eye peeking out at me. I am sure it wasn't thrilled that I disturbed its delightful afternoon nap!

Wild and Free, a tiger portrait by Sandra R Cutrer
"Wild and Free" a tiger portrait. Painted on a professional art board, 8" x 10" ready to frame! $300.00 plus $15.00 shipping & insurance charges.
Don't you love tigers? Being a cat lover, tigers are one of my favorite felines. Tough, fast, big, and attitude! They are born to be free, and wild. I enjoy seeing hem in zoos, but deep in my heart I know they are miserable and need to be free to roam in the jungles and grasses where they are meant to live. Sadly, most zoos have small enclosures, where they pace back and forth, longing for more room. They are amazing animals, and I enjoyed painting the eyes, as they seemed to be looking right into my soul.
Philippians 4:6-7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

"Wings of Freedom" by S.R. Cutrer
My suitcases are unpacked- again. Three weeks ago we flew back from a family vacation in Washington , D.C. Yesterday we returned from a quick, but fun trip to west TX. It was my birthday, and my husband knows I love to travel. Yes, it takes me out of my beloved studio, and yes, I do get off of my healthy-eating plan a lot, but there is nothing like throwing a few things into my luggage and heading for parts previously un-investigated (by me and my hubby). What beautiful parts of the country we saw! So many hills and valleys, such green grass, beautiful farms and ranches. We enjoyed talking with people, and visiting a super nice antique car dealership, among the many things we packed into our getaway.
I am posting my original painting of our wonderful bald eagle, along with the American and Texas flags because I want to make sure that everyone knows I am proud to be an American! Yes, and a proud Texan! We do have our many "flaws" in this country (and it seems the gap is widening from the freedoms I grew up knowing) but we are still a great nation- under GOD. Let's keep it that way.
I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America , unto the republic for which it stands, one nation, under GOD, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
HAPPY FOURTH! LET FREEDOM RING!!!!

Crown of Courage, a lion portrait by Sandra Reeves Cutrer
"Crown of Courage" is a large, original oil painting of a lion on a 24 x 30 x 1.5 inch gallery wrapped canvas- all sides are painted a continuation of the background colors. $ 575.00-plus $ 35.00 shipping, insurance, and a signature confirmation when your painting arrives. A higher shipping charge applies to Hawaii, Alaska, and Canada. Please contact me with any questions.
I worked carefully to make the focus his great mane, his "crown of courage". A lion's mane, and the size of it, is so important for the male lion in the wild. A large mane, healthy and long, can bring on the admiration of many beautiful lionesses that are looking for a strong and courageous male. She is looking for the special male who can give her healthy and strong cubs. The bigger the mane, the bigger the lion seems to be, which is very enticing to the females in the area. It also comes in handy to scare off any younger or smaller lions that might try to come into his territory.Psalm 46:2 - Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea.

Cinnamon and Sugar by Sandra Reeves Cutrer
"Cinnamon and Sugar" are two sweet giraffes. As you can tell, Sugar is trying to catch up with his mother. Giraffes are such amazing animals. I think I have always respected them for their height and grace.
Unfortunately, more than half the giraffe calves in the wild never become adults as they fall prey to predators like large cats. If they do reach adulthood, the average life expectancy of a giraffe is about 25 years in the wild and more than 30 in captivity. A fun fact about giraffes is they sleep for between 20 minutes to 2 hours a day. Even when they sleep for the longer period, they do so in 20-minute naps.
Painted in oils on an 8" x 16" x 0.50" wrapped canvas. Sides are painted, so this painting can be hung unframed or easily framed. All of my prices are listed on my blog photo listing, or please visit my website @ sandracutrer.com for pricing and more information.

Unfinished giraffes by Sandra Reeves Cutrer
I was having some fun with my newest camera, taking it for the first time to the Houston Zoo. What a great zoo! They have enlarged it so much, creating a lot more room for many of the animals to enjoy. I adore giraffes, so of course I had to get as many shots as I could of those beautiful creatures. I thought I would show you a few of my lay-ins. I am still working on it, of course, painting in one layer at a time, then allowing each layer to dry before I put in the next one. Lots of detail is what I'm after, and a great title, too. If you have any ideas, contact me at: sandrasart777@aol.com.

Nebit- Leopard UNFINISHED by Sandra Reeves Cutrer
Still on my easel and very wet, but a good friend and I are on our way to another animal photo shoot for new reference materials,so I will have to finish him later.
Leopards, graceful and powerful large cats closely related to lions, tigers, and jaguars. They live in sub-Saharan Africa, northeast Africa, Central Asia, India, and China. Many of their populations are endangered, especially outside of Africa. Another species we must protect for future generations!
See you soon, with the finished Nebit!
Thanks for reading my blog and looking at my work. Have a blessed weekend.
