Naja, an original lion portrait in bright oils

Naja, means strong in the African language. I think that is the perfect name for this strong big cat, and the bold colored oils that I used to create him with!

Naja is painted on an 8" x 10" stretched canvas. The sides are painted the background color, so he can be left unframed or easily added to your favorite frame.

I love lions and continue to be saddened that there are so few remaining in the wilds of Africa. All of the big cats are slowly being killed off, as well as many other species of wild animals all over the world. I hope to continue painting these beautiful creatures, and visit them in their natural habitat one of these days, soon, before they are all gone!

"Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours." 1 Chronicles 29:11

Mr and Mrs Don Key, two donkeys in oils by Sandra R Cutrer

A very pregnant Mrs Don Key and her very excited "husband" met me at the fence when I tried to capture a few photos. Although I'd like think they were excited to see me, I think they were both looking for a special treat- like an apple or a sweet carrot!

Mr and Mrs Don Key are painted in oils on a 16 x 20 inch canvas- ready to frame. $125.00 plus $15.00 shipping and insurance inside the USA.

"Strutting My Stuff," Rooster painting by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Strutting My Stuff" is an original oil painting on a 12"x 12" x 1" gallery wrapped canvas. All sides are painted in a dark hue, so he can be left unframed if desired.

I love painting roosters, and have many roosters and hens in my personal collection. Not only are roosters beautiful, but they are such fun to watch! Yes, they can be a pain in the tail-feathers when they do their loud wake up call, they are bossy, rather sure-of-themselves, and cocky (pardon the pun), but they have a way about them that says,"Lay off my back and don't get in my way", causing one due respect. I mean, they aren't big animals, but you would think they are if one takes off chasing at your heels with that sharp beak!

All of God's creatures are a gift, each species unique, and beautiful in its own way. Each serves His purpose.

Three's a Crowd! Artist Sandra Reeves Cutrer

Oh La-La... there is no gift better than spending some relaxing time with your better half... and there is no room for any company....
I tell my husband all of the time that life seems to be backward. Not that we didn't find some time together, but when we were younger, had kids all in our (very small) house, it seemed we had to get in the car and drive off to some out-of-the-way place just to have that "extra" time alone as a couple . Well, the kids are grown, we moved over 400 miles aways from most everyone in the family ( no unexpected drop-ins over here), and have a bigger house. But, there seems to not be much Oh La-La time- between all of his long hours at work, my work (art and taking care of everything at home that he doesn't have time for- like grocery shopping, cleaning, cooking, paying bills, yard work, phone calls, banking, running errands... you know), and just being worn-out by the time showers have been taken, and we flop down for some "Me time". So looking forward to my husband's retirement ... I don't know about the Oh La-La time, but I sure am hoping for more time to paint, while he takes care of some the above mentioned chores...LOL! 24" x 36" canvas, ready to frame.

I am my lover's, and he claims me as his own. Song of Solomon 7:10

Slim Pickins, rooster, chicken, original art, oil painting

"Slim Pickins" is a colorful, and very bossy rooster. He is painted in oils on a stretched canvas measuring 12"x 24".This guy was fussing at the hens who would dare to come near him, seemingly hoping that he might share whatever it was that he was pecking at. He put up a huge fuss as several tried their luck, making me think just maybe there really wasn't that much there, or either he was just being his bossy old self! OOPS- this piece is sold! I can paint something similar to him just for you. Please contact me for my very reasonable prices!

I am pretty sure this old guy has never read:
Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."
Luke 6:38

Falling Leaves by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

As the leaves fall outside and the days turn colder, I am reminded that life, and death, go on. Time stops for no man, as everyone well knows. I have been scanning my many (over 6000) family photos for the last 5 months, or so. A few days ago, I scanned one of my elementary yearbooks, then made a list of the names of those that are no longer living. It nearly broke my heart. How sad to see such a long list for such a small school yearbook! But, the sun came up this morning, and God's world still turns. Today, I will love those around me, smile at every stranger, and do the best I can to be a blessing to those around me, as one never knows when another leaf will fall.

This painting is sold, but prints are available at Sandra-Cutrer.artistwebsites.com

"Strutting My Stuff" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer $95.00

Who wouldn't fall in love with the beautiful colors of all of the many varieties of roosters that God has made. I have come upon a few roosters who seem to know just how important they are, acting so "cocky" and sure of themselves as the "ruler of the roost"!
Some of our more famous forefathers raised roosters. Among them: George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and Henry Clay, just to name a few. Today, many respected people such as lawyers, doctors, and working class families continue to raise these magnificent birds. While the press tends to focus on an unsavory element of society, who breeds roosters strictly for illegal fighting, the fact is that the vast majority of breeders are ordinary people, interested in the majesty and beauty of these fine animals.

“Truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “this very night, before the rooster crows, you will disown me three times.” Matthew 26:34

"Don't I Know You?" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer $125.00

Close-up shot

I thought I would go to my patio/outdoor studio for the last couple of days, to allow my brush and acrylics "talk to me". I had a blast painting this piece- looser than most of my work. I really enjoy how quickly acrylics dry, which makes it a different challenge than oils. You must work faster and concentrate more on where you want your colors to go since they will stay there, not like oils that can be easily pushed around on your canvas for days. Does she look like someone you know? Is she hiding her identity so she won't be followed? Or following someone she doesn't want to reveal herself to?  $95.00-Free shipping inside the USA!

“And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” (Genesis 3:8).You can hide from man, but not from God.

"Atsila" expressionism painting by Sandra Reeves Cutrer $125.00

I am really enjoying expressive painting. Expressive or Expressionism painting isn't about the actual expressions on a person or animal's face, but more about emotions of the painter, showing bold colors and strokes. This one is named "Atsila", which means fire in the Cherokee language. I have posted below a good defintion about the Expressionism style taken from About.com.

Definition: Expressionism is a term used to describe a movement of the early 20th century (c.1905-20) that was most prominent in Germany and Austria. The aims of an Expressionist were to express emotions through the use of vivid colors and strong, distorted lines, rather than capturing a likeness or reality. Their work was characterized by intense, violent, and non-naturalistic colors, painted in a textural manner.

Expressionism is the opposite of Impressionism, which emphasized painting what the artist observed. The work of Vincent van Gogh had a lot of influence on artists who are now classified as Expressionists.
