Unfinished giraffes by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

I was having some fun with my newest camera, taking it for the first time to the Houston Zoo. What a great zoo! They have enlarged it so much, creating a lot more room for many of the animals to enjoy. I adore giraffes, so of course I had to get as many shots as I could of those beautiful creatures. I thought I would show you a few of my lay-ins. I am still working on it, of course, painting in one layer at a time, then allowing each layer to dry before I put in the next one. Tatanka, an original Bison oil painting by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

    Tatanka, means Bison in the Native American Indian language. 

This big guy seems to be standing his ground, maybe chasing away rival males from his harem. My husband, younger son, and I traveled to the Midwestern states a few years back. One of these big guys decided to run a little on the main road- in the state park traffic. Thankfully, everyone knew to stop driving until he made up his mind where he wanted to go. It was such a neat experience to watch his huge, muscular beauty,enjoying his freedom to roam.We were also able to see the female (cows) with their babies, although they stayed further away, protecting their young from curious tourist.

"Washed Ashore" by Sandra Reeves Cutrer

"Washed Ashore" is painted with mixed media on an 8"x 8" gallery wrapped (all sides painted) stretched canvas.

I had such fun painting this one, that I am considering creating a series of various seashells and colors.

Seashells remind me of the many times I've gone walking on the beach. From a small child to a middle aged adult, I don't think I will ever tire of hunting for that "perfect" or rare seashell. Our granddaughters enjoy exploring our beach just as much, always returning to Nana and Pop's house with a load of seashells and sand in their buckets. $35.00 plus shipping and insurance.

He is like a father to us, tender and sympathetic to those who reverence him. For he knows we are but dust- Psalm 103:13-14

Something New

I am not sure if I will just leave this one alone or add a little something. I am enjoying the colors and textures. Very soothing. I don't do a lot of abstracts, but when I do I usually create one after working on a very detailed realistic painting.It allows me to be lose and free;whatever happens happens! Painted in acrylics on an 8"x8" stretched linen canvas, sides painted so it can be framed or left unframed. No price yet,as I am not sure what or if I will add to this!
