Bullwagi,elephant portrait,profile,oil painting, Sandra Cutrer
"Bullwagi", an elephant profile portrait on black canvas. Size 8" x 10", oils, wrapped canvas. Bullwagi is a sweet elephant, born in Florida, and resides at the Birmingham, Alabama Zoo. He weighs in at a mere 13,000 pounds!
Worked into a dark background, I wanted to capture Bullwagi's calm expression by using soft hues. He only has one tusk, the other being removed after an accident when he was a youngster. I wanted to portray him as "different is okay”, by painting him differently than his "normal" coloring. He reminds me that there are many bullies in our world, always pointing out others flaws and weaknesses, or anything that is "different" from what they call the norm. Yes, Bullwagi is different to us, but he seems happy and is a very valuable "stud”, and much loved by the many zoo keepers and thousands of visitors that come to say hello to Bullwagi each year.
I love doing commissions of animals, and especially people's beloved pets. Please contact me through my web site @ Sandra Cutrer Fine Art,or this blog, or my email address@ sandrasart777@aol.com, and I will get back to you as soon as possible.
"Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind."

"Courting Cardinals" oils on canvas male and female cardinals
"Courting Cardinals" is an original, 11" x 14" oil painting on a fine
linen canvas of a male and female cardinal. My husband and I put a
large bird feeder up for our young dare-devil cat a few months
back, hoping to keep her entertained and out of trouble. She loves
watching the birds, and so do we! In early Spring we were nearly
mesmerized by the beautiful court ship of these beauties. The male, ever
watchful and aggressive towards other male cardinals who dared to come
around, would bring the female a large berry or nut from our feeder,
holding it up to the female until she accepted it.Later they would visit
the bird feeder alone (we figured and hoped they had a nest and eggs),
and then finally we were graced with the presence of their one young
male hatchling. We have watched as he slowly learned to fly, eat from
the feeder, and sit on the fence top, as he grew and changed into his
bright red feathers. These are truly wonderful birds. Please view my photo list on this blog for prices, or visit my website @ sandracutrer.com for all prices and more information.

A story I'd like to share:
"I had an amazing sign from God," says Janice Hurst of Baton
Rouge. "One day after my 17-year-old son Cory had been run over and
killed in a hit and run incident, I was sitting on my porch sobbing
when I noticed several beautiful red birds gathered under the tree.
I asked God if he would send a red bird to me as a sign that my son
was okay and with Him. I felt kind of embarrassed asking for such a
thing because I couldn't imagine a bird just coming up to me.
Meanwhile, the mail came and I had a small package in which was a
letter from Reader's Digest. I have never ordered anything from
Reader's Digest so therefore I thought this was rather strange.
Inside the package was a small note saying, 'I'm sorry for not being
able to fill your request, but as a consolation gift I have included
a small gift.' When I emptied the package I was so shocked to see a
stained glass red bird and will treasure this little red bird as a
reminder that even when we think God is not listening to our prayers,
He is. Thanks be to God!"
