Working on a very close-up portrait of a flamingo by Sandra Cutrer
I am painting on another large canvas. This one is 24" x 24" x 2.5" deep. A gallery wrapped 3D smooth canvas, painting it in oils. A month ago I was in Birmingham,AL visiting family, and took another wonderful trip to their awesome zoo. I was blessed to capture several shots of flamingos. This one was close-up, and such fun. Can you tell he had his "eye" on me!
I enjoy the challenge of painting animals. It always makes it easier to have great photos. I take as many as possible, then pick and chose, sometimes mixing several together to get the composition that I am really wanting. I think this one makes a clear statement of how awesome these large birds are! Their coloring never ceases to make me happy.
Do you have some favorite photos that you'd love to have turned into an original oil painting? Please contact me for pricing and any questions you might have.

Working on a Louisiana gator swamp scene, painted in oils by Sandra Cutrer
I am still working on this commissioned piece. An alligator they fondly named "Charlie" comes pretty close to the river camp where the couple goes to fish, boat ride, and just relax. The reference photos they mailed where really light, meaning the sun was super bright, and not clear at all. The water was dull, and everything in the water was pretty much the same values. Thankfully, the lady who commissioned the piece gave me full artistic license to "liven-it-up" a bit. Charlie was on a log, where a large knot in the wood looks like a turtle. I added a couple of small turtles to give him more balance, and a little more conversation. No Louisiana swamp scene should be without Cypress knees, moss hanging from the trees, and a little "scary" looking darkness in the background. I am hoping Charlie will be satisfied that he is the center of attention on an original oil painting by Sandra Cutrer Fine Art!
I would love to paint a commission for you, using your photos. Please contact me at sandrasart777@aol.com, or scroll down for more of my work. You may also visit my web site at: Sandra Cutrer Fine Art, and browse my work for sell.

A Few FUN FACTS about alligators :
After mating, a female will construct a nest where she will lay up to 50 eggs. The rotting vegetation in the nest keeps the eggs warm and the temperature of the nest will determine the sex of the hatchlings. If the eggs are incubated over 93 degrees Fahrenheit (33.8 degrees Celsius), the embryos will develop into males, while in temperatures below 86 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius) embryos will develop into females. In temperatures between 86 and 93 degrees Fahrenheit an embryo could develop into a male or female.

Gracie, a tabby cat in oils, small canvas by Sandra Cutrer
Gracie is a small tabby, and was probably the runt of the litter, but we aren't sure since she was thrown into the yard of another cat lover, like myself, who allowed me to be her new mom. She is our third rescue cat. Her eyes are transfixed on the many birds that visit our small backyard, enjoying the free-for-all we indulge them in from our constantly-over-filled bird feeder.
I adore animals, and if you will scroll through and check out the rest of my work on my blog, or my web site: Sandra Cuter Fine Art, you can easily see how important they are to me, and how much I enjoy painting them.
I love taking commissions, and offer a layaway plan if desired. Gracie is painted in quality oils on a 6" x 6" x 1.5". To have your pet's portrait done starts at $75.00 plus shipping and insurance. Please contact me if you are interested. I'd love to work with you on a life-time original oil painting of your beloved pet!
