I love apples, especially sweet ones, like Macintosh,Rome, or Jonathan. I thought it would be fun to line up a few of my Macintosh apples, then on impulse, I grabbed one of my navel oranges. Right off I could tell which would stand-out, as in " take-charge" [of the painting], be the dominate one, and maybe a little showy? And, without a doubt, quiet different from the rest of the "crowd". I have friends who are so much like this orange- always wearing bright colors, or bold patterns, and lots of huge jewelry. I've tried dressing like these friends, but I always go back to what I am more comfortable (and secure) with. We are all unique, and we should be comfortable being who God made us to be. He gives us all the freedom to make choices- good and bad ones. He loves who we are (no,not our sin), and we should never feel the need to act like anyone else.

"Atsila" means fire in Cherokee. This is an oil painting done in the expressionism style, on an 11"x14" stretched linen canvas, ready to be framed and enjoyed in your favorite room. Like their distant cousins the Iroquois, the Cherokee Indians had an even division of power between men and women. Cherokee men were in charge of hunting, war, and diplomacy. Cherokee women were in charge of farming, property, and family. Men made political decisions for the tribe, and women made social decisions for the clans. Chiefs were men, and landowners were women. Both genders took part in storytelling, artwork and music, and traditional medicine. Today,Cherokee women can be chiefs also.

"A Moment in Paris"

Paris was everything you've ever hear about if you haven't yet seen it for yourself. It is truly the country of romance,history, and art. With so much to do and see, plus all of the glorious smells of fresh bread and cafes' on every corner, who wouldn’t be happy in Paris! It was breathtaking each and every morning and (if this is possible), more so every night. Paris is a place that begs you to come back soon when you say your hurried goodbyes. I dream of going back and staying for a month or two. We were treated like family at every place we went. With so much to see; my feet would beg me to stop and rest, but there were only so many hours in our short week to see this magnificent city!

I especially enjoyed one night, as my son and I looked out over our balcony window; the rain was hitting the leaves on the tree that grew against the hotel wall, bringing in such  peaceful sounds and earthy aromas. We were looking out through the rain, watching the colored lights change on the Eiffel Tower, when I happened to look down and catch glimpses of the ladies rushing from their evening shopping. The street lamps threw out their beacons of light, ushering them home to prepare their evening meal.

And we have the word of the prophets made more certain, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. II Peter 1:19

 My husband and I live about 10 minutes from the beach here in southeast Texas. I love to go walking on the sand, especially on our granite-lined Jetty. It's so much fun to see the various fish and seafood caught by the many various races of people who love come to fish here. One of my all time favorite trips to the beach is when the waves are up. I am not happy when hurricanes are coming toward the gulf, as usually we need to evacuate, but we try to make it to the beach before leaving so we can watch all of the surfers hit the big waves. Every once in awhile we can spot someone riding their horse on the beach. I have always thought this was such a romantic thing- riding on the beach with the love of your life. And no, there are no large dunes here, but I loved the ones I've seen on the Florida beaches we've been able to visit.

I started this painting awhile back and I have been allowing the oils to dry while I think about where I want to go with this. I don't normally show anyone my work until I feel it is complete, but I thought I would look at it myself (on my blog) to see if anything "popped" for me. I can see a few quick fixes I will have to make, then I will add some more to the back ground and maybe a bird???

We shall see!
